In addition to spay and neuter surgery, The Spay & Neuter Center of New Jersey offers a number of preventative health care services that you may elect to have performed at the time of surgery.  We offer wellness services to new pets until their owners find a private practitioner.  Wellness for a pet not receiving spay and neuter surgery needs a scheduled appointment.  No walk-ins, please!

4DX test- offered to dogs over 6 months of age.  This tests for Heartworm disease, as well as other tick-born illnesses like Lyme, which are prevalent in New Jersey.  Dogs should also be tested for heartworm disease prior to being put on preventative.  We also offer testing for heartworm only.

DHP vaccine- this is a core vaccine for Distemper, Hepatitis, and Parvovirus.  All of these diseases can be deadly to dogs.  All puppies should receive a series of these vaccinations followed by boosters as adults.

Bordetella vaccine- this is the kennel cough vaccine.  It is usually required for obedience school and in canine boarding facilities.  Being vaccinated against kennel cough will help your dog fight this respiratory disease that is transmitted easily from dog to dog.

FeLV/FIV test- recommended for all kittens and cats not previously tested.  This tests for 2 viral infections in cats (feline leukemia and feline AIDS) that are often fatal.  ***The exception to this would be TNR cats.  We only recommend this test for TNR cats if there is prevalence of illness in that colony.

FVRCP vaccine- this is a core vaccine for Panleukopenia (a lethal disease), as well as Herpes and Calicivirus, 2 respiratory viruses that can cause serious illness.  All kittens should receive a series of these vaccinations and boosters as adults.

Rabies vaccine- this is required by law to be updated for both dogs and cats.  Rabies is a zoonotic disease (an illness that can be transmitted from animals to people) and has no cure.

Flea, tick and heartworm preventative- all dogs and cats living in this area are susceptible to these parasites.  Heartworm, flea and tick preventative are recommended year-round in the Northeastern United States.  We offer several different choices of products- please see our pricing information.

Fecal exam and deworming- if worms are suspected or confirmed by fecal exam.  This is also a standard of care treatment for all young kittens and puppies.  To learn more, please refer to Veterinary Partner.

Ear mite treatment- many cats, especially those that live in colonies or are from shelters will harbor these parasites.  They cause significant itching, redness, and infection in the ear canal and need to be treated.

Microchipping- According to the Found Animals, one in three pets will get lost in their lifetime.  90% of pets without identification will not return home.  It's a simple procedure that will help keep your pet safe.  The Spay & Neuter Center of New Jersey highly recommends microchipping of all pets.
